This Radiance — II. The Second Sutra
The Dynamic Energy of Appearance
If the first sutra points to the one fact,
this one shows how that fact moves
as the moment we call experience.
Whatever appears —
colour, sound, sensation, thought —
is actuality in its appearing.
Not arriving.
Not caused.
Only appearing —
flickering as these textures.
What appears as experience
is actuality in motion —
flaring as feeling,
as movement,
as the sense of a world.
Each appearance is complete.
Nothing supports it.
It stands free of every condition —
it is itself,
wholly.
Look directly:
this moment
is this radiance —
the absolute itself
as this
very
instant.
Only this,
no observer apart
from what appears.
Only this play
of presence as itself,
ceaseless,
undivided,
complete.
To recognise this
is the whole matter —
the simple fact
that whatever shows itself
is this radiance,
being itself,
now.
This piece is a modern-day response to Sutra 2 of the Pratyabhijñāhṛdayam (The Heart of Recognition), one of the most extraordinary works of the Kashmir Shaiva tradition.
With respect to the translators and commentators whose work has shaped our understanding — Jaideva Singh, Swami Lakshmanjoo, and Peter Brown.
If this work resonates with you, there are still places available for the April workshop.

What was the first installment of this sutra called Rob?
A clear, mature Advaita expression. It points directly to non-origination, dissolves the subject–object split, and locates the Absolute precisely as this appearing moment. No seeking, no hierarchy of states—just recognition. Poetic, precise, and faithful to non-dual seeing. Thank you again.
